Summer Wrap-Up

The Northland summer is short and sweet, but we make the most of every moment! Across our eight summer programs, we spent a couple of evenings each week on the water, enjoyed a ride along the Munger Trail, hit the greens at Enger Golf Course, and took time to move our bodies with intentional yoga sessions.

One highlight of the summer was once again having the opportunity to host the Wounded Warrior Project for a week. Together, we explored local parks, created beautiful stained glass pieces, and spent plenty of time on the water—sailing, kayaking, and enjoying an excursion aboard the Vista Fleet.

While summer may be winding down, we have plenty of exciting activities still ahead. We hope you'll join us for one soon!

Archery

Northland Adaptive Recreation's archery program offers instruction in adaptive archery techniques that accommodate people living with a variety of disabilities. Adaptive equipment and skilled instructors make archery possible for people with a wide range of abilities. This may include those with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and visual impairments. We teach both beginner and advanced archery lessons.

Climbing

Northland Adaptive Recreation offers instruction in adaptive climbing techniques that accommodate people living with a variety of disabilities. Adaptive equipment and skilled instructors make climbing possible for people with a wide range of abilities. This may include those with physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and visual impairments. Participants are encouraged to learn basic and advanced climbing techniques and equipment.

Youth Swimming

We believe swimming is a life skill, and that all children are safer and happier when they learn the basics of water safety. No matter what their ability, everyone should be able to experience swimming. Our lessons focus on the basics of water and pool safety and recognize the challenges each of our swimmer’s face. Each participant will have a one-on- one volunteer as well as trained instructors helping with their lesson!

Come swim and splash with us in this safe and supportive environment.

Yoga

Grab a mat, a table, or your wheelchair and come begin your journey to total wellness.Yoga is a form of exercise and is a method of maintaining whole-body wellness. Our adaptive yoga class is open to all bodies and abilities. Here at NAR, we empower individuals with disabilities or chronic health conditions to create an effective and safe yoga practice. We do this by teaching multiple variations, allowing the poses to be adapted to specific needs and abilities.

Nordic Walking

Don't worry we're not ready for the snow quite yet. Its is a specific practice of walking originating in Finland, with the use of walking poles it becomes a low impact full body workout. Come connect with nature and others in the community for a beautiful stroll.

Lacrosse

Lacrosse is one of North America's oldest team sports and in Collaboration with Duluth Wolfpack we will be bringing it to the Northland Adaptive Recreation community. We are putting on a 2 week lacrosse clinic where we can practice using a stick, picking up ground balls and more. We will be following the USA Lacrosse format of Inclusive Lacrosse to serve a wide population of participants.
